Over the last few months I've been hard at work on this beauty behind the scenes, so I'm so excited to finally pull back the curtain on the Speaking of Space brand!
With years of interior design and styling experience under her belt, owner Teresa Marsh decided it was finally time to take her craft to the next level and start something of her own. Hence, Speaking of Space was born!
Along with the launch of this new business, Teresa wanted to create an engaging and professional image for her new brand that gave Speaking of Space the right voice and spoke volumes to her target customers. This led her to get in touch with yours truly!
Brand Vision & Strategy
Teresa's vision was for the brand that was tailored and timeless, while also incorporating a personable tone and a pop of vibrance inspired by her global upbringing. A key principle in her work is that how a space works is just as important as how it looks, so the brand needed to emphasis the importance of function as well as form.
We set out to accomplish these things with a bold yet sophisticated monogram that hints at the brand name (without reading as SOS), and uses contrast to complement the style of Teresa's work.
We'd use this monogram as a mark for the brand, as well as integrating it as a larger encompassing design element, also filling the mark with images of Teresa's work and other design elements. These applications would emphasize the function of the brand as well as the form.
Finally, we'd integrate handmade elements and rich tones to offset the contrast of dark and light—and the crisp thicks and thins—and bring some personality to the Speaking of Space brand. With this strategy in place, I got to work crafting a logo and identity that would support Teresa's amazing vision.
The Speaking of Space brand appeals to couples who are career, creativity, and lifestyle-oriented. They want to discover their style, connect to their space, and make their home a functional environment.
The brand’s tailored yet personable style reflects its values of honesty, creativity, and connection while the uniquely custom logo and handmade graphic elements set the brand apart and speak to the timeless style and story that make it so special. The custom mark gives the brand a tailored yet timeless appeal, while clean typography exudes an inviting sense of warmth.
Behind the Logo
This Speaking of Space logo hinges on the mark, a custom monogram crafted by fusing two serifed S’s together. These letterforms complete one another as well as creating a subtle “o” form between them to represent the “of” in Speaking of Space.
The logo is made up of this custom monogram, as well as two serifed typefaces paired with a clean sans serif for a modern twist on timeless style. In the primary logo, the monogram sets the stage as well as acting as a kind of “S” drop cap for both “speaking” and “space.” This utility demonstrates the way that beauty and function are married within the Speaking of Space brand.
The Speaking of Space brand finds a new level of depth and distinction through its custom patterns. These abstract patterns are made up of brush strokes, which add vibrance and personality to the brand, while transforming brand collateral into unique art pieces for recipients to cherish.
There are two variations of the brush pattern. One version is made up entirely of various warm and cool neutral tones and can be used as a subtle background for an unexpected element of delight, such as in the website footer and social media banners.
The other version integrates the tertiary colors of gold, pine, and merlot with the neutrals and should be used very sparingly in contained contexts, such as on the Speaking of Space business cards and within the mark itself. The mark containing the brush strokes can be used on a dark background, as well as over white for a more subtle impression.
I'm so thrilled with the stunning new identity Teresa and I created for the Speaking of Space brand. I can't wait to see it really come to life out in the wild and wow all those dream customers of hers!
